A TRIBUTE TO THE WORKERS OF THE BORRI SHOE FACTORY

In front of the supermarket, a monument was erected to honor the workers of the Borri Shoe Factory, a historic company founded in 1892 in Busto Arsizio. The city’s major manufacturing industries were built on the hard work and sacrifices of countless laborers, who endured harsh conditions for decades. Their struggles were overcome only through the courage and determination of those who organized and fought for their rights.

Unveiled in 2020, the metal sculpture depicts three female figures standing beside bicycles symbolizing the essential mode of transport for families of that era. The installation is mounted on a stone base, elegantly engraved with the golden “Borri” logo.

The monument also honors the women who organized a protest outside the Black Brigade headquarters in Piazza Trento Trieste during the Resistance in March 1944, ultimately securing the release of an imprisoned colleague. After the Liberation, many of these women played a pivotal role in rebuilding the economy and advancing democratic rights.
